Our ATA Service is a great option for Fire and Rescue Services, our experience in the sector has given us great insight and an external perspective to the challenges, opportunities and threats which exist within the sector. Most services are facing significant cuts and there is an ever growing emphasis for services to work closely with other bluelight services.
In addition to this most Fire and Rescue services will be within scope of the Apprenticeship Levy having payroll costs of more than £3m, however they will also fall under the public sector duty for apprentices meaning a minimum of 2.3% of workers starting each year in larger public sector bodies in England will need to be apprentices. The new duty, will apply to public sector bodies with 250 or more employees in England.

Encompass Select currently work with Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire and Rescue Service and have managed the end-to-end recruitment and selection process and are now employing 22 apprentice Firefighters in behalf of the service. The individuals are undertaking the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Emergency Fire Operations over the next 24 months. In addition to this Encompass has also recruited a number of business admin roles and a vehicle maintenance apprenticeship.
Encompass are involved from the start, recruiting the individuals, support the interview and employing the apprentices. Encompass Select is a cost effective model for the fire service when they come into a recruitment period. You will be appointed a dedicated Key Account Manager who you will liaise with regarding any issues and they will also be responsible for the employment of the new recruits. Encompass Select take on all responsibilities for employees, this includes any disciplinary issues, pastoral care, paying that employee and much more.
Encompass also work with Humberside Fire & Rescue Service and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue providing tailored management programmes, through the delivery of the CMI Level 3 Diploma in Management and Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership. There are currently over 90 learners enrolled across both services. An advantage to using Encompass for this type of development is that we understand the fire services structure when it comes to development. Making sure our programmes adhere to CFOA’s position statement on the IPDS, this means qualifications are mainstreamed into everyday activity of the individuals who are on the programmes. Through programmes design we ensure that delivery is relatable and are assessors and tutors work with each individual learner to ensure that the units picked are based around their role.
